Travel Insurance Claim
Travel Insurance covers personal accidents, medical expenses, air ambulance, loss of effects, repartition costs and all other expenses that may arise as a result of loss, damage, injury, delay or inconvenience occurring to the tourist. A policy contains details of the cover, conditions and exclusions relating to each insured person and is the basis on which all claims will be settled.
To make the claim for travel insurance, first of all read the policy details and small print carefully. Some travel insurance policies have an excess per item claimed for and some policies state a maximum value that any item can cost. Always keep your policy details safe and carry them with you when you go on holidays. A policy booklet will be required while filing for a travel insurance claim.
If you need emergency medical treatment, contact with the insurance company’s Emergency & Medical Assistance Center within the specific period of time of your hospitalization or if the medical expenses are likely to be more than a specific amount as described in the policy. You need to get a medical certificate in order to file for claim. You need to get a written report from the relevant authority, if you are claiming compensation for theft, mugging, loss, damage in transit, travel delay or catastrophe etc.
For making any claim, you need to provide the original booking invoice/receipt or medical certificates. The some of the various documents that you need to submit along with the claim applications under different sections are:
• Claim under cancellation – Original airline tickets, cancellation invoice, or a letter from your employer confirming date of redundancy and that you qualify for payments in case of claims resulting from redundancy etc.
• Claim under curtailment – A copy of death certificate.
• Claim under hospital benefits – Written confirmation from the hospital of the period of hospitalization time.
• Claim under baggage – Police report, a Property Irregularity Report, original receipts and proofs of purchase for all items.
• Claim under personal money – Police report details of amount lost, bank statements, conversion slips etc.
• Claim under travel delay – A report from airline, shipping company or their agents that shows the reason of delay.
