Students Overseas Travel Insurance Claim
Processing insurance claims is not easy most of the times, as there are a number of technicalities or formalities involved while processing a claim. The insurance companies ask for all the records, proofs, affidavits etc. from the claimants. It is the insured’s or family member’s responsibility to initiate a claim to get reimbursement.
For Students Overseas Travel Insurance Claim, insured need to send all itemized medical bills as soon as possible to the insurer’s address specified in the policy and attaches all the required documents like duly completed and signed claim form, policy copy, air tickets, social security number, name of the university, boarding pass etc. Insured can also inform at help-line numbers mentioned in the policy documents to register a claim or can email the claim as well.
The additional documents required under different coverage are:
• For Health Cover – Original doctor’s statement mentioning the ailment and the treatment prescribed, original hospital bills/receipts for the amount fully settled.
• For Loss of Baggage – Property irregularity report issued by the airlines, letter from the airline confirming that the baggage has been permanently lost, and description of items lost along with relevant bills.
• For Loss of Passport – Receipt of obtaining duplicate passport and travel documents, and certificate issued by embassy of the respective countries, stamps, cost of a professional account or solicitor.
Third Party Administrator (TPA) would validate and authenticate the claim. TPA would also check and reimburse payments within a week or settle bills directly with hospitals. An insurer is asked to provide an “Explanation of Benefits” after claim is processed to explain how the claim was processed according to the benefits of insured’s Student Overseas Travel Insurance Plan.
