Filing Homeowners Insurance Claim
To make a successful claim, owner should carefully review the policy and understand what exactly is covered and what isn’t in the event of disaster. The Homeowners Insurance Claim process is completed in two steps i.e. filing your claim and then settling your claim. For filing a homeowner’s insurance claim, you need to report thefts, accidents, burglaries etc, to the local police. Make a contact with your insurance agent, report the loss and ask the agent for any additional information. Prevent the further loss by taking some preventive actions or steps like repairing of damaged glass windows, furniture etc during the incident.
Make a list of all damaged property including their makes, models, and serial numbers. It is necessary to save all your documents and receipts carefully as you need to submit them to insurance company for compensation. Once you obtain a claim form, try to complete it and return to them as quickly as possible but it should be filled accurately and attach all the required documents. Any wrong information filled in claim form can ruin your claim procedure. So, it is advisable to contact adjuster who can appraise the loss and estimate the claim amount to be filed.
Once you filed your claim, the insurance company will inspect each aspect of your claim and will make an offer. If you are satisfied with the compensation, the company sends you the payment without delay. But if you don’t consent with the offer made, discuss the matter directly with company or the agent. Explain your case to them using bills, receipts, and other documents and follow the formal procedure outlined in your policy.
