Take necessary steps to protect you property from further damage by making temporary repairs. In case, immediate repair is required for equipments, save the damaged equipment parts in case the claims adjuster is interested in examining them. Secure the receipts of the payments made for buying new equipments or for repairing the damaged equipments.
While filing for a business interruption claim, you need to show the income the business was generating both before and after the loss. So, it is advisable to keep the detailed records of business activity and the additional expenses of keeping the business operating in the temporary location during the interruption period. Once the claim has been filed correctly, the insurance company will inspect the details of the claim and the report made by the adjuster, and will make you an offer.
If you are satisfied with the offer, the company will issue the claimed amount as soon as possible but if you are not satisfied with the offer made, you can talk to the company or consult an attorney who specializes in insurance claim matters. The attorney will judge through his own calculations whether there is a legitimate case that might result in a much larger settlement if brought to trial.
